Peer Ministers

/tr>
The Peer Ministry program began in 1997 and continues this year with a new definition as well as a few new faces. The peer ministers are initiators, organizers, meeters, greeters, and faith sharers. They also have a specific area of ministry in which they will focus on. Working with a designated ministry mentor, each hopes to encourage involvement in center activities.
Peer Ministers for 2007 - 2008:
Hello, I'm Mary Brandt. I'm from Iowa City, IA (born and raised a Hawkeye!) but Cedar Falls is becoming my new home. A main reason is because of St. Stephen the Witness where I've been active by Eucharistic Ministering, attending and planning community events, and represtenting St. Stephen at Orientation. This year I will be the Campus Outreach/Publicity Peer, and boy am I excited! I hope that I can give the St. Stephen community as much as they've given me. Outside of St. Stephen I'm a junior marketing major. Also, I like playing basketball (especially with Matt and Michael), watching all sports, and hanging out with friends.

I am a junior Management Information Systems major with a certificate in Software Testing from Holstein, IA. I have been involved at St. Stephen’s in the past by helping with weekend liturgies, participating in the Antioch experience as both a candidate and as a team member, and by attending men’s group discussions. This year I am excited to serve as St. Stephen’s Spiritual and Liturgical Life Peer Minister. I am excited about getting to know and working with everybody in our faith community. In my spare time I enjoy playing basketball, relaxing with family and friends, and watching UNI games. GO PANTHERS!!!

I am a junior Family Services major with a Religion minor. I come from the small town of Sumner, IA. I've been quite active at St. Stephen since the fall of my freshman year. Some of the activities I have been involved in include Adopt-A-Grandparent events, the 30-hour Famine, GIFT group, Thanksgiving food baskets, the Spring Break service trip to the CWH, and many others. I was the Prayer Team leader for the Spring 2006 Antioch Retreat team. Last year I was also a member of the Discipleship Council with the outreach area of the Catholic Worker House. I served as Secretary for DC in the spring semester. This past spring I was also one of the building cleaners at the center. This year I will be your friendly Social Justice Peer. We will be reaching out to those who need a voice in our world, as well as educating others about injustices people face everyday. I hope to continue to be involved in other areas and activities so I can continue to reach out to others and grow in my faith. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends, visiting with my family, watching movies, reading, being outdoors, and helping others. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here to listen! I look forward to meeting many new people this year!

Hello! I am a senior Math Education major with Instructional Technology minor from Marion, Iowa. I am excited to get even more involved with St. Stephen this year as a peer minister. In the past, I have been involved with the Antioch Retreat as Prayer Team Leader, attending Women’s group, as well as assisting with Finals Care Packages. As Community Life Peer, I will be organizing events to allow students to socialize and interact with other college students. Some of my areas of involvement include GIFT groups, twice monthly social events, and the Lenten Fish Fry. St. Stephen is a great place to meet people and get involved, so keep your ears and eyes open for things that interest you!!
