The Peer Ministry program began in 1997 and continues this year with a new direction as well as a few new faces. The Peer Ministers are initiators, organizers, greeters, and faith sharers. They also have a specific area of ministry in which they will focus on. Working with a designated ministry mentor, each hopes to encourage involvement in center activities. Peer Ministers for 2011-2012 are:

Eric:Hello everyone, my name is Eric Brundies! I am from Davenport, IA and my home parish is St. Mary’s Catholic Church. I am a second B.A. student, majoring in English Education with a Literacy minor. I am the Community Life Peer for the 2011-2012 school year, which means I’m in charge of the faith-sharing and social events at St. Stephen such as GIFT groups, TGIF events, and the Fish Fry during Lent! I am looking forward to working with everyone to make St. Stephen a better place! It is going to be a great year! E-mail: brundiee@uni.edu |

Amber:Hi. My name is Amber Clare Kearney and my hometown is Chariton, Iowa which is Sacred Heart Parish. I am a Junior Communicative Disorders major with a minor in Spanish. I am the Spiritual Life Peer minister. This ministry involves Tuesday Prayer, RCIA, Student Planned Primetimes, Reconciliation services and helping with various other liturgy planning such as advent and lent planning. I’m looking forward to growing closer to God through my ministry and also seeing others grow too. I am so excited to see how this ministry can transform into something that is built upon love and giving of myself to do God’s will. A goal I have this year is to get to know new people at St. Stephen’s and to help them be involved. Another goal is to keep everything focused on Christ. It seems easy enough because my outreach is Spiritual Life, however it is important to even think of the small tasks, or preparations as a prayer to God, and see how it can affect others. Liz:Hi! I'm Liz Mastalio, and I'm originally from Iowa City, Iowa where I was a member of St. Mary's Parish. I am a junior math education major/physics minor. Yes, that means I like math...I'm also in the Honors program and love Panther Athletics and am in Harry Potter Club and....I just love everything at UNI, basically! This year I'm the Social Justice Peer Minister here at St Stephen the Witness. That means I coordinate most of the service efforts at St. Stephen, including but not limited to Catholic Worker House, Habitat for Humanity, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, and the Thanksgiving Food Basket project. I love being a Peer because I get to interact with all of the other students who are trying to grow in their faith at St. Stephen. I also get to see Christ work through the students I'm working with and the people we're serving in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area. St. Stephen has become like my family here at UNI and I think it can be that way for you, too, if you take advantage of the activities we have going on! This year, I'm hoping to just make a difference in people's lives somehow: the people we serve by helping make their lives better and the people who are serving by helping them share Christ's love.
